Visual arts alive and well at Onamia schools


In this day and age, when the fine arts are slowly being nudged out of local school curriculums, it might be refreshing to know that the visual arts are alive and well in the Onamia School District, with teachers and programs available for every student grades Pre-K-12.

One of the salient factors of offering classes in the visual arts of painting, sculpture and the like is the fact that students are able to enjoy the results of their creativity. Such is the case with a project just concluded at Onamia Elementary School, where art instructor Deb Huberty led her students grades Pre-K-6 in an activity to create what is known as a “Star Quilt” — a quilt made up of diamond-shaped pieces of cloth.
