Volvo Sued Over Infotainment Mobile Device-Detection Technology


Volvo Car Corp. allegedly infringed a South Korea-based patent owner’s protected technology by placing infotainment systems that allow drivers to manage vehicle communications while inside certain hybrid and electric vehicle models.

Volvo’s XC40, S90, C40 and other models contain infotainment systems that utilize Bluetooth to connect mobile devices, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Value8 Co. said Volvo, its parent company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., and its American units infringed US Patent Nos. 9,930,158 and 11,563,840.
