Walt Disney Pictures Has Taken ‘The Little Mermaid’ by Halle Bailey Out of Oscar Consideration

As awards season gets closer, Disney is making a name for itself, but it looks like they’ve already made a big choice about their 2023 remake of The Little Mermaid: it’s been pulled from one category.

Disney has chosen to stop its “For Your Consideration” campaign for Best Original Song, and the category is no longer listed on the official website.

This is a big deal because, according to the rules of the Academy Awards, if a studio doesn’t send an entry to a certain category, it can’t be considered for that category.

Even though Halle Bailey’s performance was praised when the movie came out, The Little Mermaid was criticized for its heavy use of CGI and for changing some of the original lyrics to songs like “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and “Kiss the Girl” so that they wouldn’t offend people today.

Some X users don’t understand why Disney pulled “For Your Consideration” for “For the First Time” but kept up its awards campaign for cast members like Awkwafina (Scuttle) and Javier Bardem (King Triton) in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor categories.

Even though Halle Bailey, who played Ariel, can’t be there or sing the song, many people think it should have been sent in anyway.

The fact that Javier Bardem is still in the running for Best Supporting Actor even though reviews of his work in the movie were mixed.
