MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) — The mild winter has been tough on some businesses, while others have been thriving.
With temperatures in the mid 50’s Wednesday, there were many people outdoors with light jackets and many hitting the links.
“Warm weather. Golfers have a big itch to come out and I guess the biggest thing that really helps us is the name of the golf course is getting out more and more and more people are just looking to find other courses to open,” said Michael Zirtzlaff, Head Golf Professional at Grant Park Golf Course.
Most golf courses are still closed for the season but due to unseasonably warm temps, Grant Park is open. Officials there say the last time they were this busy so early in the year was back in 2017.
“Thursday is our next busy day and then Sunday is going to be just as busy today. Our Tee sheet for Sunday sold out within 2 hours of the Tee sheets opening up.” said Zirtzlaff.
The weather is also driving traffic to area car washes.
“I don’t think there are many things more rewarding than having a clean car,” said Blake Ketner, VP of Operations at Tsunami Express Car Wash. The new location in Waukesha opened just in time for the warm weather rush. They’re giving out free washes for the next several days as part of their grand opening and expect to remain busy the rest of the season into Spring.
“Super mild out here. People love to come clean up their car when the weather turns a little bit, and the sun comes out so with the favorable weather conditions, we pushed really hard the last 3-4 weeks to make sure we were open on time and sure enough we’ve had a good start to the day,” said Ketner.
