Thousands of U.S. artists call on government to regulate AI

Some artists in the United States are sounding the alarm on artificial intelligence (called AI for short).

Country singers, romance novelists, video game artists and voice actors have written thousands of letters to the U.S. government, asking for help.

They say that AI poses a risk to their jobs.

The artists say their original work can be copied or even used to train AI systems, often without getting permission from the original creators or paying them in exchange for using their work.

Some are asking the U.S. government to make rules around AI to protect their jobs.

CBC Kids News spoke to some art students at Cardinal Carter Academy of the Arts in Toronto, Ontario, to weigh in on the art versus artificial intelligence debate.

We asked how they feel about AI being used to make art.
