Weekend highlights include Cirque Dreams Holidaze, Peanuts Holiday Jazz Jam [Events Roundup]


The following events are planned for the week ahead throughout the region:

• Santander Performing Arts Center, Reading, presents Cirque Dreams Holidaze on Sunday at 4 p.m. The show features a world-renowned cast of performers accompanied by an original music score including new twists on seasonal favorites such as “Deck the Halls,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” Singers, dancers, penguins, toy soldiers, and reindeer invoke the dreams behind a child’s eye on the most magical of nights. • Kennett Flash, Kennett Square, hosts the Peanuts Holiday Jazz Jam on Sunday at 5 p.m., featuring music from the legendary Vince Guaraldi. The Flash will transform into an authentic jazz club, featuring a full concert hosted by local jazz musicians, as well as the opportunity for audience members to join in and jam. A suggested donation of $15, plus a $5 BYOB fee, directly benefits the musicians and the Kennett Flash but it is not required for entry. For more information, see kennettflash.org.

• Santander Arena, Reading, presents Pierce the Veil with LS Dunes, Dayseeker and Destroy Boys on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Combining elements of post-hardcore, emo-punk, and progressive rock, Pierce the Veil burst onto the scene in the late 2000s and achieved mainstream success in 2012 with the release of their gold-selling third studio album, “Collide With the Sky,” which included the hit “King for a Day.” The band topped the U.S. alternative rock charts again in 2016 with “Misadventures” before an extended hiatus. Seven years later, they returned, calmer and more reflective, with their mature fifth album, “The Jaws of Life.” For tickets and more information, see santander-arena.com.

• SoulJoel’s Comedy Club at Sunnybrook, Pottstown, presents Jimmy Shubert on Friday at 8 p.m. and Eleanor Kerrigan on Saturday at 7 p.m. Shubert was a finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and appeared on Comedy Central as the closing act on Dave Atell’s Comedy Underground. Kerrigan cut her teeth at the World Famous Comedy Store. Starting out as a waitress there, she learned the ropes of comedy while making the best comics in the country laugh, in the kitchen of the club. It would take several years and lots of pushing from one of her biggest fans, Andrew Dice Clay, to finally get her to take her comedic talents to the stage. Her hilarious take on life comes from her unique experiences growing up street-savvy in South Philly, as one of 10 children in a very Irish-Catholic family. • Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center, West Chester, presents Superunknown — A Tribute to the Legacy of Chris Cornell on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Superunknown’s frontman, Jason Reed, delivers Cornell’s howling vocals, a hallmark of the Seattle grunge scene. They cover all eras of Cornell’s career, from Soundgarden to Audioslave and Temple of the Dog. Tickets are $35 in advance at uptownwestchester.org or $40 at the door  (students, $25/$30).

• Keswick Theatre, Glenside, kicks off its weekend with The Machine paying tribute to Pink Floyd with a three-album show featuring “Wish You Were Here,” “Animals” and “Dark Side of the Moon” on Friday at 8 p.m. The Machine has forged a 30-plus year reputation of extending the musical legacy of Pink Floyd. The New York-based quartet performs a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-album repertoire, complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems. On Saturday at 8 p.m., Zebra headlines, and will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their debut album by performing it in its entirety. On Sunday at 8 p.m., The The Band Band will celebrate The Band’s “The Last Waltz” with horns and special guests. And on Tuesday at 7 p.m., the Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform their greatest hits, including “In the Mood,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “American Patrol,” “A String of Pearls,” “Little Brown Jug,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” “Tuxedo Junction” and their theme song. “Moonlight Serenade.” For tickets and more information, see keswicktheatre.com.

• One of the region’s most picturesque “shop small” experiences is welcoming visitors this Friday and all weekend long with more than 75,000 holiday lights as Chester County Hospital Lights Up Holiday Weekends in West Chester officially begins. This year, West Chester is lighting up more downtown blocks than ever — and hosting more free holiday events than ever — to attract visitors to its 50-plus retail stores and 60-plus restaurants. This weekend’s Small Business Weekend events will include the West Chester Borough Balladeer Carolers roaming and performing in Victorian attire from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday; the Making Spirits Bright Holiday Music Series presenting a free concert by the St. Agnes Parish Combined Choirs on High Street in front of the Historic Chester County Courthouse at 2 p.m. Saturday; Santa on a fire truck at 3 p.m. Saturday; and a holiday window decorating contest all weekend. • The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks hosts the Not Just Rock Record and CD Show on Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Mega Treasure Market on Friday from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Not Just Rock expo features records, books, magazine and lots more memorabilia, plus celebrity guests. General admission is $5. The Mega Treasure Market features hundreds of vendors offering new and used gifts, coins, antiques and estate jewelry, with live auctions and onsite appraisals. Tickets are $8 for a one-day pass, $11 for a two-day pass or $15 for a weekend pass. In addition, the LuminoCity Holiday Lights Festival continues through Jan. 15 at the expo center’s Fairgrounds.
