Weems held the Mental Health Awareness Fair at Dumont Plaza

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Weems hosted the Mental Health Awareness Fair in downtown Meridian on Tuesday morning.

This was a free event held at Dumont Plaza.

Members of the community came out to receive and learn information on how to manage their mental health in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

“It’s something that’s so important to continually work on,” said Krilecia Gianakos, PR and EAP Coordinator for Weems. “I know that it’s difficult sometimes for people to know what is available for you, but since it’s Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re out here in Dumont Plaza celebrating it.”

There were many tents with different divisions of Weems represented such as Weems Children and Youth Services, Wesley House, The Department of Veteran Affairs and even counselors and therapists came.

“Understanding that your mental health matters, life happens, and sometimes you may need a little assistance with coping with life,” said Dr. Traci Gibbs, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for Comprehensive Care and Behavioral Health. “There’s been a lot of increased depression, increased anxiety, increased and complaints of difficulty in focusing some that may mimic ADHD mood disorder, panic disorder and different things like that.”

Weems would like the public to know that they are available to provide assistance to help you maintain a great quality of life.

“So what you need to know is that the community is here to help,” said Gibbs.
