Weir Farm Welcomes New Artist-in-Residence For June

WILTON, CT — Charis J. Carmichael Braun has been selected as the June 2025 Artist-in-Residence at Weir Farm National Historical Park, continuing the site’s longstanding tradition of fostering creativity through its Artist-in-Residence program.

Braun, a graduate of the New York Academy of Art, creates large-scale paintings that explore the intersection of the human figure and wild, fragmented landscapes. Her work draws inspiration from Romanticism, the Hudson River School, and Post-Impressionism. During her residency, she plans to engage with the legacy of American Impressionism that defines the Weir Farm environment.

In addition to her studio work, Braun will participate in the park’s Open Studio event on Saturday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist, view her recent work, and learn more about the Artist-in-Residence program. Light refreshments and children’s art activities will be provided by the Friends of Weir Farm.

Originally from New Ulm, Minnesota, Braun has worked in arts administration and taught art history at several institutions. In 2020, she received a New York State Council on the Arts grant to paint portraits of beekeepers on Long Island.

The Artist-in-Residence program at Weir Farm hosts six visual artists annually between May and October. Since its founding, more than 250 artists have participated, continuing a creative legacy dating back to Julian Alden Weir’s arrival in 1882.

The program is supported by the Friends of Weir Farm and a grant from Tauck, a Connecticut-based travel company.
