A federal grand jury in Atlanta has charged Todd and Julie Chrisley with a total of 12 counts, including wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Todd and Julie Chrisley are best known for their parts on the popular show Chrisley Knows Best.
In Georgia’s Northern District, charges were also brought against Peter Tarantino, who worked for their family business.
At first, Todd Chrisley was adamant that they were innocent and that they hadn’t done anything wrong.
The court drama started with a charge of not paying state taxes in Georgia. The couple settled the case by agreeing to pay $147,944.75 to the Georgia Department of Revenue.
WXIA, an NBC station in Atlanta, said that they also got a tax refund of more than $66,000 for the years 2013 through 2016.
But the couple still had to deal with the government indictment, which said they had avoided paying almost $2 million in taxes from 2008 to 2016.
The trial started in May, and on June 7, 2022, the Chrisleys were found guilty of wire fraud, plot to commit bank fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
The U.S. attorney’s office announced that Todd Chrisley was given a 12-year prison sentence and that Julie Chrisley got a 7-year sentence.
