What to do in New Orleans this week: drunk comedy, art shows and more


Mardi Gras may be over in New Orleans, but don’t fret just yet. It’s still crawfish season, the forecast is balmy and bright, and it’s shaping up to be a beautiful week.

Here’s your five-day calendar of fun:

Crawfish at Bayou Beer Garden

When: Tuesday – Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Where: 326 N Norman C Francis Parkway, New Orleans

Cost: $19 per pound.

Need we say more? Supplies are limited, so dig in while you can.

Stoned vs Drunk vs Sober

When: Wednesday, Feb. 21, doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

Where: Hi Ho Lounge, 2239 St Claude Ave, New Orleans

Cost: Tickets are $6 advance, or $10 at the door.

Three teams, two vices and one ridiculous show.

Hosted by comedian Isaac Kozell, this stand-up competition features three teams in various states of mind (you guessed it: stoned, drunk and sober), who compete for the funniest set. The winning team is decided by you, the audience.

Toulouse Theatre Presents: Donavon Frankenreiter

When: Wednesday, Feb. 21, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Where: Toulouse Theatre, 615 Toulouse St, New Orleans

Cost: $27.32 general admission advance

The slow-moving surfer sounds of Donavan Frankenreiter are coming to the Toulouse Theatre. The tropical soft rocker will be playing a spread of old hits and new singles alongside folk band “Goodnight, Texas.”

Closing reception for “Just Us”, NOCCA’s Visual Arts faculty show

When: Thursday, Feb. 22, show at 7 p.m.

Where: 600 Homer Plessy Way, New Orleans

Cost: free!

Sip wine, ponder art pieces and brush shoulders with — or even talk to — the artists themselves at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts faculty show. The event is free, but the inspiration is priceless.

Bayou Blues Burlesque

When: Friday, Feb. 23, show at 8 p.m.

Where: The AllWays Lounge & Cabaret, 2240 Saint Claude Avenue, New Orleans

Cost: $25 per ticket

Enjoy live blues music by The Delta Revues band, accompanied by a salacious spread of burlesque and variety acts. The evening ends with an onstage performance by none other than “The Famous Mr. Cheeze,” the Bayou Burlesque’s very own circus dog.

When: Saturday, Feb. 24, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: Marsalis Harmony Park, 8211 S Claiborne Ave., New Orleans, LA

Cost: Free entry

This twice-monthly open-air market displays handmade treasures from a rotating roster of more than 300 juried artists. Photographs, glasswork, ceramics, jewelry and clothing – you name it, you can find it in the shaded oasis of Marsalis Harmony Park. See more information at the official website.

“Carnival: 6 Visions of Mardi Gras” Exhibition

When: Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Tuesday – Thursday 6 – 9 p.m., through March 2

Where: 5256 Magazine St., New Orleans

Cost: free entry!

Still haven’t got your fix of Mardi Gras? The New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts presents six Magazine Street artists’ vision of the joyous sights and sounds of Carnival. The exhibition is free and open through March 2.
