QUEENS, N.Y. — Noah Fernandes poked the ball out of Daniss Jenkins’ hands, picked it up near mid-court and drove to the basket. The Rutgers guard took one dribble, contorted his body to get the ball away from Jenkins’ attempted swipe, then knocked down a lay-up with an acrobatic finish.
For the first time in 35 minutes, Rutgers led St. John’s at Carnasecca Arena. After hearing the home crowd cheer all afternoon as St. John’s dominated this charity exhibition, the Scarlet Knights contingent made their presence felt in the final minutes of regulation.
