What’s fashion without the beauty team?

There’s more to a runway show than just the designer; we need to give credit to the beauty teams too. The MUAs, hair stylists, nail artists, and other creatives that make up beauty teams are often left out of the narrative when we talk about runway shows, and it’s about time they get credit where it’s due.

Acclaimed hair stylist Sam McKnight is one of the many people tired of seeing the work beauty teams put into fashion shows and shoots not being credited. Commenting on the publications that don’t credit the beauty teams behind fashion editorials and shows, McKnight revealed he had called out multiple of them this past week. But as well as publications, brands themselves should also be held accountable for crediting the teams they enlist to bring their visions to life.

John Galliano’s long-standing relationship with makeup artist Pat McGrath is evidence that he respects what a brilliant MUA can bring to a runway collection, and he always makes sure to give credit where it’s due. In Maison Margiela’s recent documentary, “Nighthawk,” which follows the creation of Galliano’s 2024 Artisanal show, he credited Pat McGrath and Duffy for supporting him in building the world around his collection.

More brands and publications need to take note from Galliano’s treatment of his beauty team, because without them, their collections would look completely different.
