What’s Going On: Nebraska Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductions at Pla-Mor Saturday


Fifteen individuals and groups will be inducted into the Nebraska Performing Arts Hall of Fame at the Pla-Mor Ballroom on Saturday.

The inductees are: 13 Nightmares, Benjamin Kushner (Mike Sweeney Lifetime Achievement Award), Billy Bacon and the Forbidden Pigs, Blackwater, Buck Naked & the Bare Bottom Boys, Conrad “Con” Good, Donald “DA” Adams, The Drumstick & Lohmeier Family (Remember the Drumstick), Ed Love, James Terry & Smooth Jazz Radio, The Mezcal Brothers, The Millions, Pat Clinch & Strawberry Burns, The Self-Righteous Brothers and S***hook.

The evening’s live performances will be by Blackwater, members of Strawberry Burns, an all-star tribute to Billy Bacon, S***hook, members of The Millions, Ed Love and Friends, members of Buck Naked and the Bare Bottom Boys and surprise guests.

Showtime is 7 p.m. Doors open at 6. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day of show. Advance tickets are available at NebraskaPerformingArts.com.

Taj Farrant, 8 p.m. Friday, Bourbon Theatre. Lollapalooza 15-year-old Aussie Taj Farrant played Lollapalooza this summer and has shared the stage with, among others, Carlos Santana, Rob Thomas and Buddy Guy. The guitar prodigy will make his Lincoln debut at the Bourbon on Friday playing the atmospheric blues rock found on his aptly titled, just-released first album “Chapter One.”

Howard Mahan, 9 p.m. Friday, Zoo Bar. Kansas guitarist, singer and songwriter Howard Mahan started playing guitar in a family band at age 9, studied guitar, business and law, and has played shows and made records across the country with several groups, including Howard Mahan & Friends. He’ll be back at the Zoo Bar on Friday, touring behind his second album, “Marigold.”

Brandon Santini Band, 5 p.m. Saturday, Zoo Bar. Blues harmonica master Brandon Santini has been off the road, dealing wth some serious back issues that kept him off the stage for months. The multiple Blues Music Award nominee is now out on what he’s calling a “Comeback Tour,” shows that will remind fans and impress those who haven’t heard one of the best harmonica players going.

Pretend Friend, 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Zoo Bar Pretend Friend is a Wichita, Kansas, progressive bluegrass band that melds elements of classic rock, folk, bluegrass and jam band music. Known for their high-energy performances, Pretend Friend, which has been around since 2015, is trying to establish a Lincoln fanbase with its two-night Zoo stand.

Colin Bracewell, 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Duffy’s Tavern. Minneapolis indie-pop heartthrob Colin Bracewell will be joined by Lincoln’s Birthday Girl, Hold Your Breath and Luna River on this Duffy’s pop bill.

Pullstring, 9 p.m. Sunday, Duffy’s Tavern. Minneapolis rockers Pullstring come to Duffy’s with their very catchy songs, heavily influenced by pop-inflected punk bands like The Replacements and Green Day.

Overkill with Molten, Viscerous, Fascinus Rex, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Bourbon Theatre. One of the “big eight” of thrash, Overkill has released 20 studio albums, three live records, three EPs and a box set in its four-decade career, including last year’s “Scorched,” which Metal Injection called “a violently spiky and virtually flawless cherry on top of a 43-year-long career.”

Formed in New Jersey in 1980, Overkill, now led by original bassist D.D. Verni and singer Bobby ‘Blitz’ Ellsworth, has been tagged the “Motorhead of thrash metal” for their style that spins in punk rock and the “New Wave of British Heavy Metal” and was one of the first thrash bands to be signed to a major label.

Sierra Hull with Cousin Curtis, 8 p.m. Wednesday, Bourbon Theatre. Sierra Hull is 33, but the mandolin whiz, singer and multi-instrumentalist has already been on stage for more than two decades, having made her Grand Ole Opry debut at 10 and signing with Rounder Records at 13. The award-winning bluegrass/folk artist has released five studio albums, including 2016’s “Weighted Mind” and 2020’s “25 Trips,” which topped the Billboard Bluegrass Chart.
