Wheeler Talks Private Practice at Kiwanis; Club President Confirms Corn Days Entertainment Won’t Be Cher or Snoop Dogg – WRUL-FM

Carmi Kiwanis Club President Kelly Northcott hears you.  And while she’s still not ready to let the cat out of the bag, she did confirm a couple artists this year’s Corn Day mainstage entertainment ISN’T.  It’s not Cher…and it’s not Snoop Dogg.  Natives are growing restless sending message after message to the club’s social media page, asking everyone they know (and some they don’t on social media) who the Corn Day entertainment is.  Northcott is attempting to temper expectations saying the committee is working to be fiscally responsible leading her to downplay anticipations.  Whoever it is, it’ll continue the long tradition of a completely free concert for festival goers.

The guest speaker at Kiwanis Thursday was Samantha Wheeler.  She’s an independent speech therapist with her own business headquartered in Norris City.  One thing that sets her apart from clinics is she travels to the patient’s home and she does it all.

I’m the only person that my patient deals with.  I’m the person taking their insurance if I take their insurance.  I’m the one talking with insurance and doctors, doing all their treatments and then their paperwork.  So there’s no middle man with me.  I think that helps me get on a good level with my patients and they get the best care that they’re looking for.

Wheeler primarily sees patients in Fairfield, Carmi, McLeansboro, Eldorado, Enfield, and Norris City.  She says she works with patients from birth to end of life and speech therapists actually do a lot more than the title may elude to.  In addition to the expected voice and expressive/receptive language, Wheeler provides therapies for cognition, swallowing, and more.  She can be contacted at 618-599-4809.

Next week at Kiwanis, members will hear from Ricky Sauls.  He’ll be sharing more about the new SIC Falcon PRIDE program at Southeastern Illinois College.
