2024 MTV VMAs: Chappell Roan Tells Crowd to “Shut the F**k Up” on the Red Carpet
Chappell Roan was hot to go on the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards—but not in the way you’d think.
Before hitting the stage at New York’s UBS Arena Sept. 11, the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer had a heated confrontation on the red carpet. (Click here to see all celerbrity arrivals.)
As seen in video footage circulating on social media, Chappell—with her back facing photographers—was in the middle of adjusting her Y/Project gown when she heard someone in the crowd shout, “Shut the f–k up!”
The 26-year-old quickly spun around and screamed back, “You shut the f–k up!”
After several cheers from onlookers, Chappell went on to shut down the heckler. Wagging her finger, she sternly added, “No. Not me, b—h.”
She later explained why she decided to speak up.
“This is quite overwhelming and quite scary,” Chappell told Entertainment Tonight. “For someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying and I yelled back. You don’t get to yell at me like that.”
Indeed, Chappell—nominated for four MTV VMAs, including Best New Artist and Best Trending Video for “Hot To Go!”—is not afraid to clap back. Last month, she called out “entitled” fans for crossing personal boundaries.
