This story contains spoilers from The Four Seasons season 1 on Netflix.
Get ready Netflix fans — the network just dropped surprising news about the future of one of its newest TV shows.
On May 1, subscribers to the streaming site got to see Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, Will Forte and more star in the comedy series The Four Seasons. Following six friends as they embark on a weekend trip to a lake house, trials and tribulations abound that could affect their relationships (both romantic and platonic). The show quickly became a hit on Netflix, and viewers were eager to know if The Four Seasons would be back for another go-around.
Well, on May 14, fans learned that The Four Seasons got renewed for season 2. What’s more, Netflix confirmed the news by posting a video montage on Instagram with the announcement.
“Who’s ready for another vacation?” the caption read. “THE FOUR SEASONS is coming back for season 2!”
Upon hearing the incredible news about The Four Seasons, some viewers took to the comments with a major request. Mainly, they want to see Steve (who played Nick, the ex-husband of Tina’s character Anne) return to the show after his character dies in the middle of season 1.
“Yes! But very sad it will be without Steve Carell,” one person wrote in the comments. “BRING BACK STEVE CARELL!! I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU DON’T BRING HIM BACK I WONT BE WATCHING!!” another exclaimed. “But you’re bringing Steve Carell back … right?” a different follower added.
Now, as fans of the show remember, Steve’s character Nick dies in an unexpected car accident in the penultimate episode of season 1. This leaves the other friends in shock, forcing the group to pick up the pieces and face what they want out of their lives moving forward. And while it currently looks like Nick won’t be featured in The Four Seasons season 2, Tina (who also is one of the show’s creators) did explain the significance this plot twist had for the rest of the series.
“In a way, it just works,” she told Netflix’s Tudum in a cast and crew interview. “Steve’s character is the character that was like, ‘I only live once, life is short. I’m going to do what I want.’ And he was right.”
“It is a running joke now that I die in every TV show that I’m in,” Steve added in the same article. “I’ve died in the last two, and now I die in this one. I hope to continue to die in TV shows well into the future.”
Well, it looks like we’ll just have to tune into The Four Seasons season 2 to see what happens!
