BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – If you’ve been dreaming about your next vacation, now is the time to start booking your next summer trip. A website that tracks travel trends expects 2024 to be the busiest year for travel ever and said now is when you’ll find a number of discounts.
Experts said there is hope for budget-conscious travelers as airfare costs have come down. Other popular destinations and peak times will have higher costs.
Kristi Chauvin, a Port Allen travel expert, said many people in the Capital Region are itching to go to Europe. The requests are rolling in as more people are finding that it has become more inexpensive to get there. Multiple area folks are getting groups together to visit the panoramic scenic views of Alaska this summer. Some are itching to leave the recent cold Louisiana weather and escape to the Carribean. She’s noticing that there’s just as much interest in land-based trips than cruises.
“I like cruises because you can see a lot in a short period of time,” said Kristi Chauvin, owner and agent at Destination Go powered by Dream Vacations. “It’s almost like a floating hotel. You go out to the excursions. Get to see something fabulous, and then you come back. Have dinner, have a couple cocktails wake up in your bed and wake up in a different country.”

If you’re looking to leave the Capital City right now without breaking the bank, she recommends a stay at a Mexico resort. Riviera Maya is at the top of her list with five-star ratings. She recommends making sure you get transportation lined up to and from the airport.
