Bowen Yang, best known for his comedic roles on Saturday Night Live, recently spoke out about his personal experience filming the highly anticipated film rendition of the musical Wicked. In an interview with People magazine, Yang discussed his sad last day on set.
Yang plays Pfannee, a friend of Glinda the Good (portrayed by Ariana Grande). Yang described the experience as a “crazy journey,” emphasizing the deep bond he made with his fellow cast members, particularly those portraying students at Shiz University.
“Everyone was on this really crazy journey to make these movies, and everyone had different journeys,” Yang said. “But I feel like mine was pretty intimately with every other student at Shiz, and that included most of the cast.”
He went on to describe a particularly memorable experience from his wrap day: “My wrap day was really emotional. I got to see Michelle Yeoh, and that was really special.” Yeoh, known for her action-star roles, plays Madame Evilene in the film.
Yang’s emotional response reflects the massive scope and collaborative atmosphere that surrounds the Wicked production. Split into two halves, the film stars Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey and aims to be a faithful yet unique rendition of the renowned musical.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the debut of Wicked, and Bowen Yang’s poignant reflection only heightens their enthusiasm.
