The 69th Fine Arts Fiesta transforms Wilkes-Barre’s Public Square into an art and music hub, drawing over 50,000 attendees annually.
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Downtown Wilkes Barre will be a busy place for the next few days as the 69th Fine Arts Fiesta takes over Public Square starting tomorrow. This year’s theme is “Listen to your Art”. Organizers say there will be more than 500 pieces of artwork on display.
“Art exhibitions, arts around the town, exhibitions, we have something for everyone and more,” Fine Arts Fiesta Executive Director Brian Benedetti said.
The event draws more than 50,000 people each year and transforms Public Square into a hub of art, music, food and community spirit.
“We have high school bands, middle school bands, all kinds of things, dance studios, theater groups, you name it you can see it here at fiesta,” Fine Arts Fiesta Entertainment Coordinator Gina Malsky said.
Fine Arts Fiesta features continuous live music.
“Friday night Flaxy Morgan will do their 30th celebration here where we’re standing and then on Saturday is our big headliner, the Badlees,” Malsky said.
Spoken word rapper Mr. Toad is one of the performers.
“-I gotta live with the fine arts because I got it in myself,” Mr. Toad rapped.
New this year is an art history walk.
“You can find different pieces from art history and read about the piece, the artist and engage yourself by getting your picture taken with it,” Benedetti said.
Fine Arts Fiesta kicks off Thursday, May 15, at 10:45 a.m. and runs through Sunday, May 18, in Wilkes-Barre.
