Willy Wonka is a fantastic character, and Timothée Chalamet is eager to play him opposite Hugh Grant in the upcoming film Wonka.
In an exclusive interview with ET in London on Wednesday, Nov. 29, the actor said that he is ‘too thrilled’ to play the legendary character.
Gene Wilder played the owner of the fictional chocolate business in 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate business, and Johnny Depp played him in 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“It was a dream come true!” exclaimed Chalamet to the outlet. With Hugh Grant, Olivia Coleman, and Rowan Atkinson, I feel like an honorary Brit.”
The 27-year-old actor discussed how he intends to keep his involvement private.
He went on to say, “I grew up on that Gene Wilder film, and I’m hugely admiring of the Tim Burton/Johnny version.”
“And this [version] is different. This is the origin [of] Wonka.”
The Call Me by Your Name star commended director Paul King for a fantastic script.
He also noted that the character characterization is different from prior iterations. “It’s not Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” stressed Chalamet.
“People are suspicious of any new retelling of beloved characters. But I think Paul King, our director, pulled this one off. I’ll let people judge for themselves,” he continued.
Timothée Chalamet is due to appear on screens throughout the world next month, and fans can’t wait to drool over his incredible performance.
