SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A Winter Storm Watch is in place from Saturday evening to Monday morning, with road slush and snow likely above 5,000 feet.
Sunday has also been issued as a First Alert Weather Day due to the potential for some snow accumulation on valley floors.
Saturday
Temperatures will remain slightly above normal in the 50s and 60s across the state.
Clouds increase out of the southwest and scattered showers are expected in southern Utah.
Showers across northern Utah will be isolated at-best.
Sunday – FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY
The wettest and most troublesome day for travel across the Beehive State will be a valley-rain mountain snow event.
Snow levels will drop to 5,000 feet through Sunday evening and a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the higher elevations.
Utahns can expect some slushy and snow-covered pavement on roadways above 5,000ft on portions of Interstate 15, Interstate 70, and Interstate 80 through Monday morning.
Wind and blowing snow may also create hazardous visibility at times in these areas as well as in the mountains and mountain valleys across the entire state.
Monday
A generally quiet and cold day with breezy north winds especially in the morning.
A couple snow showers and flurries may persist but the only hazards will be on roads in the previously mentioned areas that have not yet been fully cleared and de-iced, or where mountain showers continue.
Tuesday
Expect mostly clear skies and temperatures warming a couple degrees from where they were on Monday.
No travel issues are expected.
Wednesday
Temperatures continue to warm a couple degrees to near 50 along the Wasatch Front, and near 60 in St. George.
No travel issues are expected in the state of Utah.
Thursday
2News is watching another potential storm arriving either on, or just after, Thanksgiving for Black Friday.
Temperatures will remain cold enough for more snow in many areas.
Stay tuned to the 2News First Alert Weather Team in the coming days if you’re planning travel during this timeframe.
