With the End of the WGA Writers’ Strike, Late-Night Television Has Resumed

The WGA Writers Strike is scheduled to end soon, and dates have been set for the late-night shows to come back.

On Monday, October 2, all four of the network talk shows will start up again: Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC, and Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver will return to its usual Sunday night time slot on October 1, the day before the new episodes air.

After making the Strike Force Five podcast to raise money for their jobless staff members, the five hosts of the show announced their return on the show’s Instagram account.

The host told people on X (which used to be Twitter) on Tuesday that Real Time With Bill Maher would be back on HBO on Friday.

Wednesday afternoon, Comedy Central revealed that The Daily Show would be back on October 16 with guest hosts for the rest of the year. In 2024, they will say who will be the official host.

The Writers Guild of America’s leaders chose to end the strike on Tuesday after coming to an agreement in principle with media companies. This meant that 11,500 of its members could go back to work.

The full membership still needs to decide on the deal, which is set to happen in early October.
