It was around 10:45 in the morning on Monday, November 13th, when a call came in of a car crashing into a tree at the Speedway on Route 11 in Polkville. Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with Cortlandville Fire and TLC Ambulance.


An investigation into why the vehicle crashed into a tree began by officers. During the investigation, officers determined the driver of the vehicle, 41 year old Wendy Caswell of Cortland, was driving while her ability was impaired by drugs.
A passenger of the vehicle, identified as 20 year old Danielle A. Froelich of Taylor, was in possession of a small amount of drugs.
Officers arrested both women. Caswell was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, a Misdemeanor, and numerous infractions. Froelich was charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th.
Both women were transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office where they were processed and later released. Caswell and Froelich are both expected to appear in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.
