Woman Who Almost Hit Cops With Car In Dumfries Arrested In NC: Police


WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge woman who tried to hit police officers with a vehicle while fleeing a July party in Dumfries has been arrested, authorities said.

The woman, 19-year-old McKayla Nicole Strait, was arrested in North Carolina on Tuesday. She is charged with attempted malicious wounding and three counts of attempted malicious wounding on a law enforcement officer.

She is being held in North Carolina, pending extradition. Her court date is pending.

If convicted of all charges, Strait could face up to 40 years in prison, based on Virginia’s sentencing guidelines.

On July 1, Prince William County police officers responded to a party in the 16700 block of Interstate Drive in Dumfries. At the party, they found Strait, who was already wanted by authorities.

“When officers attempted to make contact with the accused, she got into a vehicle and drove the vehicle towards the officers,” the police department said in a report. “The officers, and a nearby 37-year-old man, were able to quickly get out of the way to avoid being struck by the accused.”

As she drove out of the area, Strait collided with several parked cars, authorities said. She also reversed the vehicle and almost hit another police officer.

Investigators obtained warrants for Strait’s arrest, but they were initially unable to find her.
