Dr. Kathleen Sheppard’s newest book, Women in the Valley of the Kings: The Untold Story of Women Egyptologists in the Gilded Age, was recently reviewed in Nature as one of its five best science book picks.
The book, published in July 2024, is a historical non-fiction work that covers some of the earliest European women who ventured to Egypt as travelers: Amelia Edwards, Jenny Lane and Marianne Brocklehurst. Their travelogues, diaries and maps chronicled their travels and give insights into their lives.
