Women’s Basketball Falls at Iowa State, 85-58


AMES, Iowa – Iowa State forward Addy Brown delivered a career-high 24 points to turn back UNCW, 85-58, in women’s basketball action at the Hilton Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

The Cyclones improved to 4-3 this season in the first-ever meeting between the schools. The Seahawks now stand 2-5 ahead of a Tuesday night contest at Nebraska.

Senior guard Evan Miller (19 points) led the Seahawks in scoring for the second straight game and surpassed double-digits for the third time this season. Guards Taylor Henderson and Kylah Silver each added 12 points, with Silver’s coming off the bench.

Brown was joined in double figures scoring by freshman center Audi Crooks’ 16 points. Freshman forward Jalynn Bristow contributed 13 points off the bench.

A Mingaile Urmuleviciute three-pointer brought the Seahawks to within a bucket, 12-10, of the Cyclones with 2:29 left in the first quarter. Iowa State then closed the opening period with an 11-1 run highlighted by eight points by Brown and a three by Belanger to make it 23-11.

Trailing 41-24 at halftime, Miller sank a jumper to open the third period that cut the deficit to 15 points, but the Cyclones followed with seven straight points to take control of the game and went on to win, 85-58.
