Women’s Basketball Falls to Manhattan Friday night

BRONX, N.Y. – A Friday night rivalry game saw Fordham University women’s basketball limit Manhattan to zero points off the bench, but the Rams fell 58-44 to the Jaspers. The Rams were led by starting center Aminata Ly who tallied her first double-double with the Rams in the game.

Connecting on four shots from the field and a pair of free throws, Ly tallied 10 points and collected 12 rebounds, and went off with a dominant third quarter, where she tallied the majority of her stats to lead the team in both categories. Emy Hayford tallied 10 points as well marking the third time in four games that she’s scored in double-figures.

Despite the loss, Fordham held Manhattan to just five point scorers on the day, with only the starters connecting on a field goal in the game, and outscored the Jaspers in the paint by a staggering 30-12 margin. Once again the Rams matched their opponents on the boards, while for the fourth game in a row snagging double digit steals with 10 by eight different players.

A low scoring first period saw the two sides separated by just one at 12-11, but an extended run in the second quarter gave the visitors a ten point cushion at the break.

Manhattan would extend its lead slightly out of halftime, but the Rams managed to cut back into the lead into the fourth quarter, recording their best shooting quarter of the night, connecting on 6-of-11 shots at just over 50% from the field in the final ten minutes. Ly would tally seven of her ten points in that frame as well as half of her dozen rebounds on the night.

Fordham women’s basketball is back in action Monday when they host Georgian Court at the Rose Hill Gym, with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. in the first of four games broadcast live on the YES Network.
