FIRST RESPONDER’S GAME
Sunday’s matchup marks the Catamounts annual First Responder’s Game. All active first responders with a valid form of identification will receive a complimentary ticket.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
Emma Utterback is currently tied for 68th in the nation in scoring at 19.0 points per game. Her 6.3 assists per contest has her tied for 21st in the country while her 19 total assists are tied for 35th. Anna Olson’s 64.0 percent shooting from the field is ranked 44th in the nation.
Vermont is holding teams to just 52.7 points per contest which has them tied for 47th in the country. They are also holding opponents to 25.5 percent shooting from behind the arc, which is tied for 103rd nationally.
LEADERS AMONG THE AMERICA EAST
Utterback’s 19.0 points per game is second among America East players while her 6.3 assists ranks first. She is also shooting 45.6 percent from the field which is seventh among qualifying players in the America East. She is also second in America East in minutes at 38.3 per contest. Olson’s 64.0 percent shooting is ranked second in the conference and her 32.0 minutes per game is ninth in America East. Olson’s 14.3 points per contest is sixth in America East while her 6.3 boards are ninth. Bella Vito is eighth in the conference at 6.7 boards per contest and Delaney Richason is second in blocks per game at 2.0. Vermont is second in America East in points per game allowed (52.7), third in field goal percentage (41.6) and fifth in scoring margin at 2.3.
DEFENSIVE MINDED
Last season, Vermont held their opponents to just 54.1 points per game and this season are holding opposing teams to only 52.7 points per contest. During the last 26 regular season games the Catamounts have only allowed five teams to score over 60 points, with just one (NJIT Feb. 18, 2023) scoring over 70 points. Vermont earned an 85-73 victory over the Highlanders in that game. 11 of those opponents have failed to reach 50 points, while Vermont has also held five of them to under 40 points in a contest. This season, Vermont has yet to allow a team to score 60 points and are forcing 13 turnovers per game, while holding their opponents to 38.9 percent shooting from the field and 25.5 percent from three. The most points the Catamounts have surrendered this year is just 57 at Providence (Nov. 10).
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE
The Golden Knights enter Sunday’s contest 0-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Saint Rose fell in their season opener 63-56 to conference opponent Pace at home on Wednesday Nov. 15. Saint Rose is shooting 33.3 percent from the floor and 18.8 percent from three this season while grabbing down 44 rebounds per game. The Golden Knights are led by sophomore Payton Graber who scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds while dishing out three assists in their season opener. Classmate Aniya Perry-McDonald was second on the team scoring 13 points in the opener and tied the team lead with eight rebounds. Junior guard Syrita Faraj was also in double figure with 10 while knocking down a game-high six free throws.
INSIDE THE SERIES
This will be the Catamounts first ever matchup with the Golden Knights of Saint Rose. However, Vermont has faced off with the NE-10 on 17 other occasions with a 13-4 record. Vermont’s most matchups against an NE-10 foe is against Saint Michael’s who they hold an 11-3 record against all-time.
WHAT’S NEXT
Following Sunday’s matchup with Saint Rose the Catamounts will travel to Estero, Florida where they will take place in the Gulf Coast Showcase at Hertz Arena from Nov. 24-26. The eight-team field will feature the Catamounts, 2023 national runner-up Iowa, North Carolina, Kansas State, Western Kentucky, Delaware, Florida Gulf Coast and Purdue Fort Wayne. Vermont will kick off their tournament against North Carolina on Friday, November 24 at 1:30 p.m. All action for the Gulf Coast Showcase will be broadcast live on FloSports.
