
Villanova and Wake Forest will be meeting for just the second time when the two schools play on Sunday afternoon. The only other match-up came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 16, 1988, when Wake Forest recorded a 53-51 win over the Wildcats in a game played at Villanova.
Junior guard Lucy Olsen earned three different recognitions for her 40-point effort against Temple. She was named both the BIG EAST and Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, and she was one of five players to earn the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the
Week from the USBWA.
It has been a great start to the 2023-24 season for Olsen . After four games, she has scored 98 points for an average of 24.5 points per game. She is currently shooting 51.4 percent from the field (37-of-72), 43.8 percent from three (7-of-16) and .708 from the foul line (17-of-24). She has had three 20-point games this year and now has eight for her career.
Senior Bella Runyan registered her first career double-double in Tuesday’s win over Holy Cross. In 36 minutes of action, Runyan had 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. She also added four assists and two steals. Runyan currently ranks second on the team in rebounding at 7.8 rebounds per contest and she is fifth in scoring at 7.3 points per game.
Villanova has played excellent defense to start the 2023-24 season The Wildcats scoring defense entering play at Wake Forest currently stands at 55.0 points per game and opponents are shooting just .363 from the field (87-of-240) and .227 from three-point range (15-of-66). Villanova has also forced 57 turnovers in the first three games for an average of 14.3 per game.
The Wildcats return home on Thursday, Nov. 30, to take on the Richmond Spiders at the Finneran Pavilion. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
