The Hope College women’s tennis team begun the spring season with a bang.
The hungry Flying Dutch won 9-0 on the road at The College of Wooster on Friday afternoon.
Hope is now 1-1 overall for the season.
The victory started with with a sweep of doubles play, and didn’t stop there as all six singles flights brought in big wins.
Doubles play finished 1, 2, 3 with sophomore Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and junior Sullivan Moran picking up where they left off in the fall, grabbing an 8-1 win.
Senior Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and junior Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) hung an 8-2 victory on the Scots, and freshman Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit) and sophomore Mallory Matthews (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) finished things out with an 8-2 victory.
Lopykinski clinched the match win with her No. 1 singles win, taking down her opponent 7-5 and 6-4.
Weeber grabbed Hope’s next victory at No. 3 singles, winning the first and then snagging the tiebreaker set 1-0 (5).
Moran at No. 2 singles also won the first set before dropping set two. The Birmingham, Michigan (Wylie E. Groves) native took the win in the tiebreaker 1-0 (3) to continue the the Flying Dutch’s wins over the Scots.
Hope finished out the first spring season win with the remaining flights finishing 4, 5, 6.
Wei earned her win with 6-0 and 6-2 wins at No. 4 singles, while Coffey picked up an identical score at No. 5 singles.
Matthews closed things up with a sweep, 6-0 and 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Hope travels to Ohio Northern University on Saturday, Jan. 27 for an 11 a.m. match.
