GRANVILLE, Ohio (January 24, 2024) – The 2024 women’s tennis preseason poll was just released by the North Coast Athletic Conference, and Denison University was ranked second with two first-place votes and 44 points. Defending champion Kenyon College was first with five first-place votes and 47 points, just three more points than the Big Red, while Wooster was third with 33 points, 11 points behind Denison.
In addition to ranking second in the NCAC’s preseason poll, Denison was also ranked No. 20 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Women’s Preseason Top 40 Coaches Poll released last week while Kenyon checked in just one spot ahead of the Big Red at No. 19.
In 2023, Denison finished as the runner-up in both the regular season (5-1) and the conference tournament in the NCAC to Kenyon, which defeated the Big Red 5-3 in the NCAC Tournament Championship match. With an overall record of 17-6 in 2023, the Big Red earned their most wins in a single season in their first six seasons under the leadership of Head Coach Jamie Scott. In addition, Denison’s 15 wins in the regular season were its most since 2008.
In her first six seasons at the helm of the Big Red, Scott boasts an overall record of 71-36 (.664 pct.), including six straight winning seasons, two national tournament appearances, three division titles and four appearances in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship match (2018, 2019, 2022, 2023), including an NCAC Championship in 2022.
Denison will kick off its 2024 season a home as the Big Red host No. 11-ranked Carnegie Mellon University starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 17.
