Elon, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team started its final tournament of the fall season today at the Jimmy Powell Invitational, hosted by Elon University. 

Fresh off a three-day trip to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the women’s ITA Carolina Regionals, CCU began today’s action against UConn in a doubles matchup. The Lady Chants took three of four from the Huskies, as the pairings of Anna Babayan and Jesse Hollins, Brooke Rogers and Nicole Abel and Kata Foldeak and Aida Maria Mitrache picked up doubles victories. 

In the second round of play, Coastal once again faced UConn, this time in singles. The Lady Chants continued their dominance over the Huskies, winning seven of nine to move to 10-3 on the day. 

To close out day one, CCU was matched with UNC Ashville in the second round of singles play. The Chants struggled to maintain that same momentum, as they dropped five of eight against the Bulldogs and a pair of UConn replacements. 

The second and final day of the Jimmy Powell Invitational will start tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ET, as Coastal faces UNC Ashville in the second round of doubles.
