SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Columbia women’s tennis team lost its road contest at Notre Dame, 5-2 Sunday afternoon. Columbia moves to 2-1 overall for the season.
Notre Dame took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Page Freeman and Carrie Beckman defeated Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang, 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles. Julia Andreach and Yashna Yellayi posted a 7-5 win against Winta Tewolde and Rachele Rimondini in the No. 2 doubles.
Gayathri Krishnan and Sophia Strugnell found some success in the No. 3 doubles as the duo took a 6-2 win over Nibi Ghosh and Bojana Pozder.
Notre Dame won four of the six singles matches to cap off the 5-2 victory. Freeman defeated Julia Haynes in the No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Andreach took a 6-2, 6-2 win against Krishnan in the No. 2 spot. Pozder posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Fatima Keita in the No. 4 spot. Ghosh earned a 6-2, 6-4 win against Salma Farhat in the No. 6 singles.
Zhang and Wang earned Columbia’s two singles victories. Zhang took a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Beckman in the No. 3 singles. Wang took down Akaria Matsuno in the No. 5 singles, 7-5, 1-6, [10-7].
