Women’s Tennis faces top competition at ITA Southeast Regionals


Tampa, Fla. (October 23, 2023) – The University of South Florida women’s tennis team competed at the ITA Southeast Regionals from October 19-22 in Gainesville and faced off against some of the top teams in the country.

Sophomore transfer Melisa Senli, who was the 2023 Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Rookie at UMASS, advanced to the semifinals of the consolation bracket of the event. The ITA Southeast Region featured players from Georgia Tech, FAU, Florida, Florida State and Miami, among others.

Senli dropped her opening round match in the main draw on Friday to Noel Saidenova of UCF, 5-7, 4-6. On Saturday, she bounced back with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 victory over Lindsay Tulenko of Georgia Southern. Senli continued her winning ways with a 2-6, 7(7)-6(3), 10-7 triumph over Millie Bissett from Florida State later in the day. In the consolation quarterfinals on Sunday, Senli tallied a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Petja Drame of FIU before falling in the semifinals to Xinyi Nong of Miami, 5-7, 2-6.

Grace Schumacher fell into the consolation bracket on Friday after a 6-3, 2-6, 3-6 setback to Ellie Schoppe of Florida State. Schumacher also bounced back quickly on Saturday with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Stetson’s Alanna Di Francesco before falling later in the day to Miami’s Nong, who also took out Senli in the semifinals, 4-6, 3-6.

The Bulls have two events remaining on their Fall schedule, beginning with the FIU Invite which commences on Friday, October 27 in Miami.
