Women’s Tennis Falls in Skyline Semifinal to Manhattanville

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Third-seeded Manhattanville College scored a 5-4 decision over host and No. 2-seed Farmingdale State College on Wednesday night in the semifinal round of the 2023 Skyline Conference Women’s Tennis Championship.

The Valiants (7-3) have advanced to this weekend’s championship round, where they will face the winner of Wednesday night’s other semifinal between Yeshiva University and St. Joseph’s University-Long Island.

FSC (10-4) opened up the match with an 8-0 sweep at No. 3 doubles, with sophomores Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) and Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.) knocking off Sara King and Elizabeth Dolce to move to 9-2 on the season as a tandem.

Down 2-1 entering singles play, the host Rams picked up victories in the Nos. 5 and 6 slots to move back ahead in the team count by a 3-2 margin. Sophomore Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.) defeated Dolce by scores of 6-4 and 6-0 in the sixth flight, while Loria moved past King at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-2.

With Manhattanville winning the first and third singles matches, sophomore MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) leveled the match at 4-all with her straight-sets victory at No. 4 against Keto Karkashadze, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker), moving the FSC player’s singles record on the season to 11-2. The Valiants captured the victory in a strongly contested, three-set marathon at the second flight to advance to the championship final.
