Women’s Tennis Heads to Chapel Hill for Regional Championships

Chapel Hill N.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis will continue its fall slate at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships this week in Chapel Hill, N.C. The tournament will run Thurs., Oct. 19 through Mon., Oct. 23 and will feature players from Division I colleges and universities from all across North and South Carolina.

“We play in probably the toughest region in the country,” said head coach Kevin Epley. “Things are going to be pretty tough. The challenges are going to be pretty stark to say the least so this will be a really good opportunity for our squad.”

The Championships will take place on the campus of the University of North Carolina at the Chewning Tennis Center. Admission will be free.

Draws and match times for the tournament will be made available on the tournament webpage. The webpage will be updated throughout the event with results and matchups.

Prior to the 2022 edition of the event, the Gamecocks had won one regional singles title in 1988 and one regional doubles title in 1987. Last year, then-sophomore Sarah Hamner became the program’s second regional title holder after winning the singles draw.

South Carolina is 162-107 all-time in singles and 74-44 all-time in doubles at the event. During the 2022 Regional Championships, the Gamecocks went 17-7 in singles and 6-4 in doubles.

The team will be represented by graduates Shahar Biran and Elise Mills, and juniors Misa Malkin and Olympe Lancelot. Biran and Mills will play doubles together while Malkin and Lancelot will also team up.

The Gamecocks will see their first action of the tournament in the doubles draw with Malkin and Lancelot in the A1 draw and Mills and Biran in the A2 draw.
