CHARLESTON, Ill. – The IUPUI women’s tennis team completed the sweep of IUPUI tennis over Eastern Illinois, after the men’s team won earlier in the day. The women’s team took the win with a score of 4-3. Four Jags earned singles points in the win.
The Eastern Illinois Panthers took an early lead with the doubles point to start the match. Emma Dell and Sofia Castillo fell at the number two spot, 6-2 and Gabbie Orlando and Elle Kotre fell in the number three spot, 6-4.
Despite falling behind early the Jags came from behind and won four singles matches to earn the win. Chloe Bailey led the way with a win at number one singles in two sets, 6-3, 7-5. Grace Lampman also won her number four singles match in two sets, 6-1, 6-3. Dell recorded a singles point in the number two spot, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. Kotre secured the win for the Jags in the number three spot in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Orlando fell in two sets in the number five spot, 6-1, 6-1. Castillo rounded out the lineup in the sixth spot, falling in two sets, 6-2, 6-3.
With the win, the women’s tennis team is now 1-1 on the season and will return to Indy to host Dayton on February 3.
