Women’s Tennis Remains on the Road for Battles with DePaul and Nebraska


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women’s tennis will remain on the road for the second straight weekend as they head to Nebraska to battle DePaul and Nebraska on Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28, respectively. 

What to Know

  • After three contests, the Crimson stand at 2-1 with strong wins against Boston College and Rice and only falling to a nationally ranked opponent in No. 10 Texas A&M. 
  • The Crimson most recently defeated Rice, 4-2 in its final match in Texas.  After falling in doubles and the first singles match, Harvard won four straight matches to clinch the victory.  Kavya Karra recorded her first collegiate dual match victory by downing Anushka Ashar (Rice), 6-1, 6-1, and clinch the victory for the squad. 
  • Kate Kim has had a strong start to her collegiate career, going a perfect 3-0 through the first three matches.  Kim also continues to lead the time in overall singles wins, currently with a record of 13-3. 
  • Holly Fischer, who ranks No. 103 nationally, continues to look strong, having started the season 2-1 in singles play.  When competing at the No. 1 position Fischer is 2-0 with both of her victories coming in straight sets. 
  • After having teamed up only twice in the fall, Natalie Block and Sany Gawande have looked strong as a duo, standing at 2-0 through the first three matches. 
  • Through the fall and the first three dual matches, the Cirmson have accumulated a total of 57 singles victories and 23 doubles wins. 
  • The Crimson will face off against DePaul for just the third time in series history.  Harvard will look to pull ahead in the series as it currently stands tied at 1-1 with DePaul having won the last battle, 2-5, in January of 2017. 
  • Nebraska and Harvard will be squaring off for the first time in series history on Sunday. 

Next Up

Following a near two week break from action, the Crimson will return home beginning Friday, February 9 to host the ECAC Championships on its home courts.
