Women’s Tennis Set For ITA Super Regionals, Fordham Invite This Weekend


NEW YORK – The Columbia women’s tennis team will send three singles players and a doubles team to the ITA Northeast Super Regionals this weekend in West Point, New York. The rest of the team will compete in the Fordham Invite hosted by Fordham University.
 
ITA NORTHEAST SUPER REGIONALS
Sophomore Sophia Wang, first-year Salma Farhat and senior Anna Zhang will represent the Lions at the ITA Super Regionals in singles this weekend. The duo of Wang and Zhang will compete in doubles at the tournament.
 
Zhang will kick off Friday with a 10 a.m. match against Syracuse’s Polina Kozyreva. Wang will get started with a match against Boston’s Victoria Carlsten on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Farhat will also play at 11:30 a.m. against Cornell’s Michelle Ryndin. The singles round of 32 and 16 will be played Friday. Quarterfinals will be played Saturday morning with semifinals and final being played Sunday.
 
The duo of Zhang and Wang start doubles play Saturday afternoon in the round of 16 against Yale’s Ann Wright Guerry and Orly Ogilvy. The quarterfinals and semifinals for doubles will be played Sunday afternoon.
 
The Lions will be playing for a chance to advance to the ITA Fall Nationals starting November 1 in San Diego.
 
FORDHAM INVITE
Due to inclement weather forecasted this weekend, Columbia will play its hidden dual matches at home at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center this weekend as part of the Fordham Invite. The event was originally scheduled to be played at Fordham’s Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.
 
The Lions will play a hidden dual against Hofstra on Friday starting at 12 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend with another hidden dual against Fordham on Saturday at 1 p.m. Other schools participating in the Fordham Invite include NJIT, Hofstra, Sacred Heart, Long Island and Fordham.
