GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Baylor women’s tennis fell to the No. 9-ranked Florida Gators, 6-1, at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Florida’s Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee overcame Baylor’s Sierra Berry and Brooke Thompson, 6-1, on court one to begin doubles play, before the No. 38-ranked pair Qavia Lopez and Malwina Rowinska bested Isabella Harvison and Zuzanna Kubacha in a tight 7-5 set to claim the point for Florida. Danielle Tuhten and Miska Kadleckova narrowly lost out to Sara Dahlstrom and Rachel Gailis on court three, finishing their set in a 7-6(3) tiebreaker.
In singles, Florida picked up its second and third points on No. 3 and No. 6 to jump out to a 3-0 advantage in the match.
Miska Kadleckova on No. 2, a senior transfer from Iowa State, picked up her first victory as a Bear in an upset of No. 38 Carly Briggs with a 6-0, 6-3, statement win. The Gators followed with a win on No. 4 to claim the match.
Sierra Berry and Zuzanna Kubacha, on courts No. 1 and 5, respectively, continued to battle. Berry fell in a third set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0, to No. 23 Emily de Oliveira, and Kubacha was unable to overcome Qavia Lopez, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0.
The Bears return to action next Friday, Jan. 26, to take on the No. 6-ranked Texas Longhorns in Austin, Texas, at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
