Yakima Health District Hosting a Firearm Storage Giveaway event at Coastal Farm and Ranch

The Yakima Health District in partnership with Seattle Children’s Hospital, will be hosting a Safe Firearm Storage Giveaway event at Coastal Farm and Ranch on Saturday, May 25th.

The community is invited to receive free lockboxes and trigger locks on a first come, first served basis. Training on the use of these devices will also be provided. Attendees will learn about the Triple Safe storage method: storing firearms unloaded, locked up, and with ammunition locked separately.

The event focuses on educating participants about the effectiveness of safe storage to prevent firearm-related injuries and deaths, particularly for homes with children and teens.

Proper firearm storage is crucial to prevent access by children, unauthorized adults, and to reduce theft, thereby decreasing the likelihood of firearms being used in crimes.

Safe storage practices also play a vital role in suicide prevention by limiting access to lethal means during crises.

This event aims to raise awareness and provide the community with the necessary tools and knowledge for firearm safety.
