Year in review

Despite the meteoric rise in the use of generative AI, as it now stands, Hong Kong has yet to introduce any specific legal reforms or amendments to existing legislation to address the imminent issues arising out of the use of AI-generated media.

There are still many open questions yet to be addressed and understood, and we are eager to see how the laws of Hong Kong will adapt or be applied to the ever-changing landscape of AI.

Meanwhile, press freedom and freedom of speech continue to be restricted in the wake and consolidation of the National Security Law (NSL). Arrests of journalists, crackdown on media outlets and overt political censorship has created ongoing uncertainty that may ultimately have a perennial impact on the news reporting industry.
