Billings, MONT. – Join the Yellowstone Art Museum, in partnership with Northern Plains Resource Council, for a FREE Artist Talk with Billings-based contemporary artist Ben Pease on March 14. A casual reception with a cash bar and desserts by Tipi Creek Catering will begin at 5:00 p.m.; the Artist Talk begins at 5:30.

Pease will discuss the creation and meaning of his sculpture, Future in Our Eyes, and address broader themes of the visual arts as a means for transmitting culture and the cross-cultural exchange of ideas. This talk is hosted in partnership with Northern Plains Resource Council as a part of their ongoing speaker series, Lessons from Indigenous Organizing.

Born in Missoula, Pease is enrolled with the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. He is a member of the Crow Indian Reservation’s Valley of the Chiefs District and grew up in Lodge Grass, MT. He belongs to the Newly Made Lodge Clan and is a child of Newly Made Lodge.

Ben has exhibited his work worldwide in Germany, Brazil, Italy, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, his work has been widely recognized in various magazines, books, online publications, social media platforms, and news affiliates. In 2022 Pease was awarded the Executive Editor’s Choice Award from the Western Art Collector Magazine in conjunction with the C.M. Russell Museum.

“Northern Plains’ Lessons from Indigenous Organizing series is part of our commitment to better understand the land we walk on, the history we inherit, and the Native communities working alongside us for a better world,” said Northern Plains chair, Edward Barta, who is also a docent at the Yellowstone Art Museum. “We’re honored to host Ben Pease, a nationally celebrated artist who uses his work and talent to educate and deepen understanding of his community.”
