
Submissions are being accepted for the 2024 Annual Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah Creative Arts Contest, Cleveland’s Commemoration of the Holocaust and Heroism, until March 17.
This year the contest will commemorate families and their stories with the theme being ldor v’dor, or from generation to generation. Northeast Ohio students in grades six to 12 can enter.
There are two divisions, one for grades six to eight and one for grades nine to 12. Cash prizes up to $500 will be awarded to first, second and third place in each category and division. There are two categories for submission and neither allows group projects.
The rules for a poetry submission include it being an original work of poetry with a title, double spaced in 12-point font with 500 words maximum and emailed as a Word document to Lindsay Friedman, education director at Kol Israel Foundation, at [email protected].
The rules for visual arts submission include it being an original finished drawing, painting, rendering, sculpture, photograph, digital design or collage with a title. For 2D work, it may not exceed 24-by-24 inches and for 3D works, it may not exceed a combined total of 60 inches, nor exceed 20 pounds. Use of a swastika and images of Hitler are prohibited and the work must be delivered to the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and be easily moved.
The winners and their school will be recognized at the Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah commemoration on May 5 at B’nai Jeshurun Congregation, 27501 Fairmount Blvd. in Pepper Pike.
