Young animal advocates to hold “500 Pounds of Love” Pet Food Drive

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) – A group of young animal lovers are looking to hold their animal “500 Pounds of Love” Pet Food Drive and they are asking the community to help them surpass their goal.

Meghan Leyendecker and Stephanie Lozano started their campaign back in 2022 after noticing the influx of stray dogs in our community and the need for additional assistance.

Concerned about the welfare of these homeless pets, both Leyendecker and Lozano decided to start their own non-profit that aims to collect pet food through food drive and give back to local pet groups in Laredo.

The girls will be hosting their third annual “500 Pounds of Love” pet food drive this Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Walmart located at Loop 20 and International Boulevard from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

All of the donations will go to the Laredo Animal Protective Society, Pets Alive Laredo, and Best Friends for Life.

Community service hours will be provided to students who help the cause.
