Zendaya began the New Year with a complete social media detox.
In fact, the 27-year-old actress didn’t even spare her boyfriend, Tom Holland, from the mysterious purge, as she emptied out her Instagram, unfollowing all of her friends and colleagues.
Her account, however, remains active, with all of her previous posts still available.
Though she did not give a rationale for the change, it could be related to the Emmy-winners’ next films, Challengers and Dune: Part 2.
On Monday, the Euphoria star shared a poster from the sports romcom/drama film Challengers, labeling it, “Challengers April 26th. Wishing you all the most beautiful new year.”
Meanwhile, Dune: Part 2 is set to be released this year after being delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in the fall of 2023.
The Dune sequel, which also stars Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh, will be released in March 2024.
Zendaya has discussed her relationship with social media, telling People Magazine in October 2021 that she frequently stays off the radar for the benefit of her mental health.
“Being on [social media] would kind of make me anxious, or I would start to overthink a little too much. [My fans] want me to… be happy and exist beyond social media,” she told the publication.
Meanwhile, Holland continues to follow Zendaya on social media.
