ZF, one of the world’s leading automotive technology suppliers, has reaffirmed its strategic commitment to the Chinese and broader Asia-Pacific markets by unveiling a suite of advanced vehicle systems at Auto Shanghai 2025. With a growing share of new business from Chinese OEMs, ZF is doubling down on innovations tailored to local demand and industry megatrends such as electrification, software-defined vehicles, and autonomous driving.
A highlight of ZF’s showcase is Chassis 2.0, a next-generation platform built around its cubiX software, which seamlessly integrates steering, braking, and damping systems for real-time coordination across all driving scenarios. Central to this is ZF’s leadership in by-wire technology, including its steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems. ZF is equipping NIO’s ET9 electric flagship with its latest steer-by-wire solution and recently secured a major brake-by-wire contract for nearly five million vehicles.
The company’s sMOTION active suspension system, based on its CDC adaptive damping platform, is another focal point, already in use in Porsche’s Panamera and Taycan models and drawing interest from Chinese OEMs for its enhanced ride comfort and stability.
On the EV front, ZF revealed its new electric range extender system. Set for production in early 2026, the system enables extended-range all-wheel drive without a second drive unit, offering compact packaging, high efficiency, and cost benefits—key advantages for future electric mobility.
For commercial vehicles, ZF is presenting its AxTrax 2 electric axle and TraXon 2 Hybrid transmission, both designed to cut emissions and improve efficiency. Additional solutions like the OnGuardMAX driver assistance system and EPS electric steering for trucks further demonstrate ZF’s comprehensive decarbonisation strategy.
“China is not just a growth market—it’s a driver of innovation. Our technologies are developed for China and, increasingly, from China for the world,” said Renee Wang, President, ZF China.
CEO Dr Holger Klein emphasised the company’s ability to meet “China speed” by localising production and development to better serve its expanding Chinese customer base across both passenger and commercial vehicle segments.
