ผิดคาดไปตามๆ กัน สำหรับภาพยนตร์เรื่อง The Marvels ภาพยนตร์ซูเปอร์ฮีโร่ภาคต่อจาก ‘Captain Marvel’ เมื่อปี 2019 ที่เพิ่งเข้าฉายไปเมื่อสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งได้สร้างสถิติใหม่ให้กับจักรวาลภาพยนตร์ซูเปอร์ฮีโร่มาร์เวล ด้วยรายได้เปิดตัวต่ำที่สุดในประวัติศาสตร์ตลอด 15 ปีเต็ม นับตั้งแต่ภาพยนตร์เรื่อง ‘The Incredible Hulk’ เมื่อปี 2008 โดย The Marvels ทำรายได้เปิดตัวได้เพียงแค่ 23 ล้านบาทเท่านั้น ผิดจากความคาดหวังเดิมที่ประเมินว่าภาพยนตร์เรื่องดังกล่าวจะสามารถทำรายได้เปิดตัวสูงสุดถึง 47 – 52 ล้านเหรียญสหรัฐ
อนึ่ง มีการคาดการณ์ว่าปัจจัยสำคัญที่ทำให้รายได้เปิดตัวของภาพยนตร์เรื่อง ‘The Marvels’ ไม่เป็นไปดังที่คาดหวังก็เห็นจะหนีไม่พ้นจังหวะเข้าฉายในโรงภาพยนตร์ ซึ่งภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้เข้าฉายหลังเหตุการณ์หยุดงานประท้วงของสหภาพนักแสดงและนักเขียนบท SAG-AFTRA เพียงแค่ 1 วันเท่านั้น จึงพลาดโอกาสในการโปรโมตภาพยนตร์ในระหว่างที่มีการประท้วง ไม่มีนักแสดงในภาพยนตร์เรื่องดังกล่าวได้เข้าร่วมการโปรโมต ซึ่งนั่นเองที่ส่งผลให้กระแสข่าวการโปรโมตถูกจำกัด และหายไปจากการรับรู้ของผู้ชมในวงกว้างก็เป็นได้ และส่งผลกระทบต่อรายได้เปิดตัวนั่นเอง
นอกเหนือไปจากเหตุผลดังกล่าวแล้ว ก็ยังมีการตั้งข้อสังเกตว่าภาพยนตร์เรื่องดังกล่าวที่ดำเนินเรื่องด้วยตัวละครซูเปอร์ฮีโร่หญิงล้วนเป็นหลักนั้นอาจจะไม่ถูกจริตของผู้ชมบางกลุ่ม ซึ่งส่งผลต่อการตัดสินใจซื้อตั๋วเข้าไปชมในโรงภาพยนตร์ในเวลานี้ หรืออาจจะรอให้ภาพยนตร์เรื่องดังกล่าวปล่อยฉายในสตรีมมิ่ง Disney+ ในอนาคตก็เป็นได้ กระนั้นก็ยังไม่อาจตัดสินได้ว่าภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้จะไปไม่ถึงฝั่งฝัน เพราะนี่เป็นเพียงสถิติเปิดตัวเท่านั้น ไม่แน่ว่า The Marvels อาจเป็นภาพยนตร์ม้าตีนปลายเหมือนหลายๆ เรื่อง ต้องจับตาดูต่อไป
