Supermarkets are full of ‘health foods’ that promise to be ‘low calorie‘ and ‘sugar-free‘, and claim to support your weight loss journey. However, their labels tell a different story with mentions of chemicals, sweeteners, and preservatives that damage your health in more than one way.
In the market, certain foods which are actually marked healthy might contain more calories. It is important to check the label and ingredients to spot the truly healthy option that is an alternative for a junk snack.
Here are a few foods which we consider healthy but have more calories:
Flavored Yogurts

Yoghurts, though considered to be rich in protein, have added sugars and artificial flavours. While they do offer benefits of probiotics, the hidden sugar and preservatives in them make them negligible. Instead, we can opt for plain Greek yoghurt as an alternative and for flavor we can add a drizzle of honey or fresh fruits.
Granola

Granola bars made with seeds of fruits are not really healthy because of added sugars and fats. Though it is calorie dense, it still has sweeteners making it a food that is high in calories.
Veg chips

While potato chips are unhealthy, an alternative that the market has created is made of corn and vegetables. But it is not completely made of vegetables as it has a mix of starchy carbs and salt.
Smoothie

While smoothie is considered a healthy breakfast option, the store-bought smoothie has lots of sugar, fruit juice, syrup and flavoured yogurts.
Diet soda

While diet sodas are sugar free, it still has zero calorie sweeteners which are the main cause of type 2 diabetes. It affects the body metabolism and increases sweet cravings in humans.
Peanut butter

Though peanut butter has reduced fat it has high calorie as any other spread that is made of high sugar content. To compensate for the texture, the peanut butter available in the markets has unhealthy oil fats.
