ROCHESTER, Minn. – PossAbilities partnered with Olmsted County Public Health to host a Healthy Eating Tips class for youth and adults with disabilities.

There were over a dozen people at the event which started with the Olmsted County staff walking attendees through a hands-on activity of making yogurt parfaits.

After, the ‘My-Plate’ tool was introduced which is a visual learning tool that helps break down portions and food groups to create a healthy and balanced diet.

PossAbilities marketing coordinator Stacy Shones says this is a great way to help individuals with disabilities gain important life skills.

Shones says, “at PossAbilities we really have been focusing on how to better serve our community especially the portion of the community that isn’t being met, and we know that there are a lot of youth and young adults that are looking for skill building opportunities, and so this is an opportunity for us to provide that.”

Shones says, “we’ve been able to partner with some amazing businesses and organizations throughout Southeastern Minnesota to bring their skills to PossAbilities and to work with people not only receiving services at PossAbilities but anybody with a disability in the community is able to attend these classes and learn a skill.”

PossAbilities will also be hosting a healthy relationships class in Feb and in March they will have a class helping individuals navigate the internet.
